Mr Andy Pay graduated from St George’s Hospital, London in 1988. He trained in Plastic Surgery in Stoke Mandeville, Salisbury, Bristol and Oxford and received further specialist training in Cosmetic/Aesthetic Surgery during a fellowship period at the Wellington Hospital, London.
He has travelled extensively abroad and undertook further subspecialist training during 2001 and 2002 in New Zealand, Australia and Hong Kong, developing his interests, mainly in the management of Melanoma and other skin cancers, soft tissue tumours and vascular anomalies.
Mr Pay was granted the certificate in Higher Surgical training and entered onto the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register after passing the National Plastic Surgery examination FRCS (Plast) in first place, gaining the McGregor Gold Medal.
He was appointed as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in the NHS in 2002 at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford a joint position with The Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading.
He has developed a particular subspecialist interest and and is very experienced in skin cancer, particularly Melanoma, but also in the management of SCC, BCC and other skin tumours.
He has considerable experience of general plastic reconstructive surgery and vascular anomalies. He has frequently lectured on all aspects of Plastic Surgery, and has continued his personal professional development in the management of skin malignancies and includes non-surgical interventions such as cryotherapy and topical treatments in his repertoire. He has been fully trained in the use of the Dermatoscope for the finessing of clinical examination of skin lesions and is an advocate and active trainer in its use, both in the NHS and private sectors.
Mr Pay’s current NHS posts are at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading and the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. He has a prominent role in the Skin Cancer Multi-disciplinary team. He is the Clinical Lead for the Plastic Surgery Service at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading. He is also widely published and has lectured on his specialist interests at a national and international level.
