Mrs Adwani is an Associate Specialist in Breast surgery at Oxford University Hospital‘s since 2005. She is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Surgery at the Nuffield Department of Surgery of Oxford University. She has a keen interest in Medical Education and has a PG Diploma in Higher Education and Learning from Oxford University and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She has introduced technology enhanced lectures and teaching for Medical Students at Oxford. She is also a UEMS Fellow in Breast surgery since 2016.
She is a trained Executive Coach.
She qualified in Medicine from Bangalore Medical College in India. Thereafter she undertook surgical training at various hospitals in Mumbai, including a year of residency at Tata Memorial hospital, the largest cancer centre in India. During this period, she rotated through Head and Neck surgery, Thoracic and Paediatric, Reconstructive surgery, Breast and Soft tissue and Uro Gynaecology departments specialising in cancer surgery. She was awarded MS in General Surgery from Mumbai University.
After a short stint as a fellow in Reconstructive surgery at Tata Memorial hospital Mumbai, she continued Surgical Oncology training at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology Bangalore, which also included rotations through Medical and Radiation Oncology and allied specialties. She was awarded MCh Master of Chirurgie in Surgical Oncology by Bangalore University.
She was a Lecturer in Head and Neck surgery for about 2 years when she carried out both ablative cancer surgery as well as reconstructive surgery. During this period, she was awarded the Indo-German prize at the International Congress of Oral Cancer.
She completed her FRCS in 1995, whilst working as a registrar at Guys and the Royal Marsden Hospitals between 1994 and 1996, in the field of Breast Surgery. She worked at Mayday University hospitals in South London between 1997 and 2005.
